NETendances Tracking
NETendances is a benchmark series in Quebec. BIP Recherche has contributed to this program since the days when CEFRIO was responsible for it, and today continues its support with the Académie de la transformation numérique (ATN) at Université Laval, ensuring rigorous data production, wave after wave.
Our contribution is long-term: programming, data collection, fieldwork monitoring, quality control, weighting, and production of the tables that enable the ATN to use and publish results that are comparable over time.
Background: Maintaining Reliable, Comparable, Up-to-Date Indicators
To fulfill its role as an observatory, NETendances must be able to measure changes in behaviours and perceptions over time. This requires a tracking mechanism that balances:
BIP Recherche was mandated to turn a body of data (surveys, interviews, statistics) into a structured, clear, and actionable sectoral diagnostic.
Our Approach: Tracking Built to Last
1. Methodological framework
Each wave follows a logic of continuity: questionnaire architecture, consistent wording, comparability rules, and tracking parameters.
2. Programming, validation, and pretesting
BIP handles the digitization, programming, and online deployment, then carries out validations and pretests to ensure data quality.
3. Data collection and fieldwork monitoring
Data is collected online from Quebec panellists, in French and English, with representativeness quotas.
- collection: 2 to 3 weeks
- indicative volume: 1,000 respondents per month
- questionnaire: estimated length of 8 to 10 minutes, balancing cross-cutting, thematic, and sociodemographic questions
4. Quality control, weighting, and output preparation
BIP finalizes the coding (as needed), performs verifications, applies weighting, and prepares standardized outputs.
Note: NETendances is best known for the content published to the public by the ATN. On our side, our primary role is data production — and we can also contribute to analysis and presentation when required.
